Everyone Welcome

 Tuesday, December 21, 2004:
President Larry Rodack convened the monthly meeting of the Indiana County PC Users Group at 7:06 p.m. at the Indiana County Technology Center, Hamill Road, Indiana, Pa.

Minutes
Approximately 21 members in attendance approved the minutes of the November 2004 meeting as presented.

Treasurer’s Report
Treasurer Larry Stadtmiller reported the ICPCUG account held a balance of $580.64 on Nov. 30, 2004. Members approved the report as presented.

Program
Lloyd Onyett presented a program on Adobe Photoshop Elements version 2.0.Lloyd estimated that Elements, which sells for $30 to $60, adequately serves the needs of 95 percent of computer users. The full version of Photoshop is much more costly than Elements.

Elements’ photo-enhancement program has special effects that can restore the original appearance to old, faded, creased photos. Using the stamp tool, Lloyd demonstrated how a sample of a good area of the photo could be used to replace bad areas of the image. The terms dodge and burn, which are traditional photo-processing techniques, are among the tools in Elements.

The program uses palettes to employ layers, filters and other effects on images being manipulated. Lloyd demonstrated the undo history feature of Elements.

In observance of the holiday season, the members paused from the business of the meeting to enjoy pizza and soft drinks.

Upon resuming his presentation, Lloyd demonstrated the versatility of layered effects in Adobe Photoshop Elements and discussed similar features in competing products such as Paint Shop Pro.

Images manipulated in Elements can be saved in nearly all commonly used formats.

The recently released version 3.0 includes more filters and effects options for changing images.

Old business:
Members briefly discussed the use of Pinnacle, a program that was the subject of a special program meeting of ICPCUG on Nov. 30, 2004. Discussion also centered on Quark Express, the subject of a class being offered by the technology center.

New business:
No items of new business were presented for discussion.

Open forum:
Members discussed problems with Microsoft Internet Explorer, how to move e-mail client mailbox files from the C: drive to the D: drive, and compared the quality of stored images by digital cameras that use floppy disks as compared to those stored on other media.

It was announced that annual dues payments of $15 for 2005 are now being accepted.

Close:
The next meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2005. With no other business to conduct, President Rodack adjourned the meeting at 8:58 p.m.

 Respectfully submitted

Chauncey Ross, publicity
