Everyone Welcome

January 20, 2004:

The Indiana PC Users Group held its monthly meeting at the Indiana County Technology Center, Hamill Road, Indiana, PA.  President Larry Rodack opened the meeting at 7:00 p.m.

 Minutes:
There being no additions or corrections, a motion was made by Larry Stadtmiller to accept the December 2004 minutes.  This was seconded and the minutes were accepted as emailed.  A copy of the minutes will be provided during the February meeting.

Treasurer’s Report:
The Treasurer’s report was read by Larry Stadtmiller and approved.

Program:
The evening’s program was presented by President Larry Rodack on how to convert, create, edit and burn home movies to a CD.

        ·         Larry showed a movie that he created from his recent trip to the Rockies.  We were all inspired to try our hand at this as soon
               as we got home.

·         He gave us a handed with definitions of terms used in movie making software and hardware.

·         A movie making software package can be purchased for about $100.  Larry prefers Pinnacle.

·         Larry demonstrated how to capture and insert scenes from a video camera onto the movie making program.  He showed how to edit the scenes, insert titles, insert audio clips or music and how to adjust the volume within the track.

·         He demonstrated how to burn the resultant edited movie onto a CD with a menu just like any professional created movie.

·         Larry mentioned that pictures can be combined creating a more versatile movie than a Power Point production.

Bob Dalecki demonstrated how to convert an AVI formatted movie into a WMV format for playback on a PDA using Windows Media Encoder 9.  AVI’s will play on PDA’s using the proper player but converting to WMV reduces the file size by a factor of almost four times

Open Forum:

·         Digital camera need not have large pixel sensing capacity if one is only using it to send pictures via email.  Large pictures files taken by fancy cameras need to be reduced in size in order to send via internet.  Three to five mega pixel sensing cameras are nice though if you intend to crop and zoom in on small areas of pictures using your computer.

·         If you are having trouble opening attachments after doing a Windows update check you mail editor settings.  The security was most likely increased by disabling the ability to open potentially dangerous attachments.  Un check that option found within, Tools, then Options.

·         Problems with controlling picture sizes while printing.  Try using different photo editors.  Some have features that enable you the ability to control the size of a picture before it is printed.  Remember, what’s printed to the screen will be different than what’s sent to a printer.

The next meeting of the ICPCUG will be held Tuesday, February 17, 2004.  There being no other business, the meeting was adjourned at approximately 9:00p.m.

 Respectfully submitted,

Robert Dalecki, Secretary
