Everyone Welcome

Tuesday, March 16, 2004:
The Indiana PC Users Group held its monthly meeting at the Indiana County Technology Center, Hamill Road, Indiana, Pa. Vice President Lloyd Onyett welcomed those in attendance and opened the meeting at 7:06 p.m.

 Minutes:
There being no additions or corrections, a motion was made to accept the February 2004 minutes.  This was seconded and the minutes were accepted as emailed.

 Treasurer’s Report:
In the absence of the treasurer, no report was presented.

 Program:
Guest speaker Jerry Fiddler discussed the need for ICPCUG officers and members to keep in contact with one another in the time between the monthly meetings. Jerry acknowledged the ICPCUG policy of protecting individuals’ privacy by sending blind-carbon copies of correspondence to the membership by e-mail.

While ICPCUG members sometimes share their e-mail addresses with others on an individual basis, they have no established means of reaching the membership at large to ask questions or discuss issues of general interest.

Jerry recommended that the members visit www.godubois.com  (see http://www.godubois.com) and consider using the public-message board feature provided there at no charge to users. Jerry demonstrated the GoDuBois Message Center and explained how it works.

Old Business:
No matters of old business were discussed

 New Business:
Vice President Lloyd Onyett mentioned that the Microsoft Office online-updates Web page (see http://office.microsoft.com/OfficeUpdate/default.aspx) addresses a number of security problems that have been discovered. Lloyd advised that some viruses in circulation could attack Microsoft Office products.

Open Forum:
In a discussion of hardware needed to convert analog video to digital, the WinTV-GO (see http://www.hauppauge.com/Pages/prods.html) internal board was recommended. Among other things, WinTV-GO allows a user to view cable-television programs on a PC. Pinnacle’s Dazzle (see http://www.pinnaclesys.com/VideoEditing.asp?Family=24&Langue_ID=7) was recommended. Firewire (see http://www.apple.com/firewire/), which requires installation of in internal board, was said to be a better connector than USB.

Discussion also centered on advantages and disadvantages of 10,000 RPM hard drives.

The next meeting of the ICPCUG will be held Tuesday, April 20, 2004.  There being no other business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:50 p.m.

 Respectfully submitted,

 /S/
Chauncey Ross,
Publicity Chairman
per Robert Dalecki, Secretary
