Tuesday, October 19, 2004: Minutes: Treasurer’s
Report: Program: A demo downloadable version is available from www.techsmith.com for 30 days or it can be purchased for $40. A helpful animated tutorial is available. You can easily capture images or text. You can change the output to either the clipboard, a specific drive or an application. You can setup a 'profile' to do any combination of things. A neat feature enables you to capture a list of files in your file manager. This program has the ability to capture items in a scroll box as text. The most powerful feature is the ability to record a video demonstrating how to do something in a windows based program. Voice can be added to the demo. The second half of the evening’s program was presented by Steve Higgins on an open source browser by Mozilla called Firefox. With this browser you don't need to worry about spyware or worms which attack MS Internet Explorer. Some sites such as many banks or Microsoft require MS Internet Explorer. With this program you can create your personal links to news, weather, movies, etc. This program has all the virtual machine plug-ins.As you install Firefox you can import your favorites from MSIE. You can subscribe to information providers. The best feature is the ability to setup tabs that allow quick viewing of your favorites (you can have more than one home page). You can set pop-ups off but allow them for specific sites where needed. You can view history, download history, cookies, etc. You can right click a link and open in another window or tab. Steve also presented Thunderbird an open source email editor which has built-in span filters. During the setup you have the option to grab information from your current email editor. You can setup either POP or IMAP but don't know if they can be mixed. Old
Business: New Business: A Pizza party is planned for the December’s meeting. Quirk express is a possible topic for a future meeting. Steve will talk to the teacher about possibly presenting this to our group. Open Forum: Irfanview is a great free photo editor. Google has created a problem where they added a toolbar that shows your history including your passwords. The next meeting will be held Tuesday, November 16, 2004 when election of officers will be conducted. There being no other business, the meeting was adjourned near 8:55 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Robert Dalecki / Secretary
