The Indiana PC Users Group held its monthly meeting at the Indiana county
Technology Center, Hamill Road, Indiana, PA President Larry Rodack
opened the meeting at 7:00 p.m.
Treasurer's Report:
No Treasurer's report was presented.
Secretary's Report:
No minutes were presented.
Program:
Program Chairman Steve Higgins distributed several handouts to
accompany his discussions. Higgins described the steps needed to
disable Microsoft Internet Explorer and to stop the SCOB virus.
Steve also listed five important steps to protect a PC system: fully back up
data daily, back up program software, make an emergency disk, defrag the
hard drive and install firewall protection.
In his program for the evening, Higgins explained the features of Microsoft
Windows XP Service Pack 2 and its security enhancements and functional
improvements. The service pack is available online or by CD. Higgins
explained the recommended steps to prepare a PC for installation of the
service pack and how to remove it after installation.
Old Business:
Linda Gibson presented prototypes of hand-cards that members may
distribute to promote ICPCUG.
New Business:
No matters of new business were raised.
Open Forum:
In a discussion of computing problems and issues, Steve Higgins
demonstrated the enhanced clipboard functions of Microsoft Office programs
such as Word and Excel. He discussed a message-text-formatting issue
in Microsoft Outlook, and showed a Web site with recipes for Godiva
chocolate Grand Marnier brownies and super-fudge-chocolate brownies.
Larry Rodack reminded members of a special meeting scheduled for Nov. 30 to
demonstrate Microsoft PowerPoint features.
The next meeting of the ICPCUG will be held October 19, 2004.
There being no other business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:56 pm.
