Secretary and Treasurer's Report
The April 20th minutes were emailed to all members by Larry Rodack.  It was accepted by the members.  The Treasurer's report is as follows:  Opening balance: $708.64; Closing balance: $658.65 as reported for month of April, 2005.

Program
Larry Rodack presented the evening's program on how to use the photo editing program "Paint Shop Pro."

* He demonstrated how a picture's contrast and brightness can be adjusted with a zoom preview feature.  Alterations can be seen on one half of the photo before applying changed.
* Larry explained how the "quick fix" or "auto adjust" button can quickly adjust a photos contrast and brightness. This feature is found in most photo editing programs.
* He demonstrated how the "smudge" tool can eliminate unwanted marks in photos.
* Larry showed that cropping can yield a much better photo.
* He adjusted the back lighting, sharpness, color saturation and hue in some photos.
* He explained how this program offers a print preview where photos can be moved and zoomed in the printing frame before printing.  Text can also be added in this view.
* Paint Shop also has a cool photo organizer where photos are ordered by the month.

Larry also demonstrated the "Paper Port" program.

* This is nice for scanning documents because you can easily organize images.
*  It can also be used as a paper organizer.  With the use of folders, scanned information can be placed in logical folders so that items can be found in the future.
* Scanned items can be placed into various software formats such as word, excel, etc. from within Paper Port.

Larry reviewed his "Pinnacle Studio Plus" program designed for creating and editing movies and slide presentations.

* This program has a cool "pan" feature where one can pan across a photo to add motion to still photos.
* The cost is approximately $100
* Larry showed a movie of his photos that he produced using this program.

Bob Dalecki showed a movie that he produced using "Windows Movie Maker" which comes free with newer versions of Windows.  This program works in the same manner as Pinnacle Studio Plus but without some of the nicer features.

Old/New Business
The status of the ICPCUG advertisement by the Indiana County Tourist Bureau was unknown and will be discussed further during the June Meeting.

Open Forum:
* Many people are reporting receiving viruses from Germany recently.
* Be careful of bugus PayPay messages about updating your account. Don't send sensitive information!
* Again setup firewalls to protect your computer with both hardware (router) and software.
* If having trouble installing windows updates do a custom install and install only a few with rebooting between installs.
* Run multiple spyware detectors in order to detect all instances.  You can use Addaware, Spybot and Microsoft's new beta version of a spy detector.
* There is a way to add a button in the Firefox browser to open a page directly into Internet Explorer
* Panara bread, Starbucks and Holiday Inn all have wireless internet access.

The net meeting of the IPCUG will be held Tuesday, June 21, 2005 at 7:00 pm.  There being no other business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:40 pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Robert Dalecki, Secretary
