Tuesday, November 15, 2005
The monthly meeting of the Indiana County PC Users Group was opened by Darlene Graham at 7:07 p.m. at the Indiana County Technology Center, Hamill Road, Indiana, Pa.  Fifteen members were in attendance.

Minutes & Treasurer’s Report
The minutes and treasury reports were presented by Bob Dalecki with both being approved.

 Program
Steve Higgins conducted a lesson on recovering data from a hard drive or SD card.  This can be done only if the hard drive is not the problem.

Knoppix a Linus based operating system can be downloaded at www.knoppix.net (2.5 hours with DSL connections speeds).  It is small enough to run on a 486 machine but a bootable cd drive is needed.  Check the bios setting before rebooting with this program on a CD.  F1, F2 or Del to get into the bios and change boot sequence so that the cd drive is in the sequence.  Once booted on this OS you can then see the hard drive.  There is an icon for a file manager which you can use to recover data.  You can also fix the registry with the Knoppix OS.  Knoppix is windows based and comes loaded with open office, Mozilla and an email editor.

You can recover data from a memory card as long as you haven't written over the data.  All you need is recovery software to see the deleted files.  The files can then be renamed and recovered.  A suitable program can be download at www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_description/0,fid,23201,00.asp.

 Old & New Business
There was no old or new business to discuss.

 Open Forum
Mozilla glitch with printing and slow access.

Are there any programs that can create PDF files?  Cutepdf Writer from www.pcworld.com for $50 is available for PDF file generation.  Also a full version of photoshop may create PDF files.  You can also create them online at www.adobe.com.
