Everyone Welcome

January 17, 2006
The monthly meeting of the Indiana County PC Users Group was opened by VP, Donna McConnell, at 7:07 p.m. at the Indiana County Technology Center, Hamill Road, Indiana, Pa.  Fourteen members were in attendance.

 Minutes & Treasurer’s Report
The minutes and treasury reports were presented by Bob Dalecki with both being approved.

 Program
Steve Higgins conducted a lesson on “The Connected Home.”  Steve presented some interesting points collected about the average home at the website www.digitalconnectmag.com.  At the end of year 2005; 42% of home have broadband access, 41% have  game console, 29% have a home network, 27% have a home security system, 23% have digital TV, 18% have a DVD recorder and 3% have a MP3 player.  This year home technology is expected to “take off.”

Steve presented a video produced by Leviton about their interconnected home system.  Features include Multiple; phones and video connections, security, internet sharing and lighting and audio in every room. The home is setup with a direct connection to distribution center.

Frank Vigianno was present and talked about the newest TV technology.  HD-1080p is the newest standard for televisions.  He stressed that buyers should purchase nothing less as TVs will need this to project the best picture quality.

 Old & New Business
We discussed the idea of joining the chamber of commerce for advertising.  It was thought that we would still be charge for any mailings.  There would be the advantage of placing ICPCUG insert into the annual report.  Other advantages would be a listing on their website and mailing list.

A motion was made and approved to exempt Steve Higgins’ from the annual $15 charge.

Open Forum
It is possible to transform audio files to another format by first burn them to a CD and then rip the songs into other program. A firewire card will help with the downloading of digital data from a video camera. Good audio mixing software are 3DX for $79 and Special Audio for $69.

Close
The next meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Tuesday, February 21, 2006.  With no other business to conduct, Donna adjourned the meeting at 8:45 p.m.

 Respectfully submitted,

 Robert Dalecki, Secretary
