Meeting Minutes – Tuesday, October 17, 2006
President Chauncey Ross opened the meeting at 7:09 p.m. at the Indiana County Technology Center, Hamill Rd., Indiana, PA.

Minutes & Treasurer’s Report

The members briefly tabled the minutes of the Sept. 19, 2006, meeting for review. On a motion by Donna McConnell seconded by Steve Higgins, the members approved a treasurer’s report reflecting a current balance of $467.75 in the club checking account.

Program

Steve Higgins distributed a handout describing how 3-D photos can be made on a PC, and then demonstrated the procedure.

Items needed are a digital camera, a PC with Win XP (SP 1 or above), photo-editing software such as Callipygian 3D or PhotoShop, and 3-D glasses.

Steve made two digital photos of a near object in an action pose in front of a fixed background, taking the second photo from a vantage point a couple of inches to the side from the first photo (one photo with the viewfinder in front of the right eye, the other taken with the viewfinder in front of the left eye).

Steve converted the resulting photos to transparent grayscale, then converted one image to shades of blue and green and superimposed the two images, matching the fixed backgrounds. The resulting image is called an anaglyph.

The members in attendance then viewed the anaglyph wearing classic 3-D glasses – with red cellophane in one lens and blue cellophane in the other – seeing the foreground object take on the appearance of being three-dimensional.

The program also included visits to the Web sites Alexa, Craigslist, Imbiblio, albinoblacksheep.com and YouTube.

Old business

The members voted to approve the minutes of the Sept. 19, 2006, meeting.

Discussion of changing the name of the organization was tabled.

New business

Members discussed technical issues including scanning text into Microsoft Word or WordPerfect, saving document files directly to a CD, and the inability of Win XP to retain different screen-resolution levels for different user profiles.

The next meeting of Indiana County PC Users Group will be held 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2006. The meeting was adjourned at 8:49 p.m.
