Meeting Minutes for Tuesday, February 20, 2007
President Chauncey Ross opened the meeting at 7:15 p.m. at Indiana County Technology Center.

Minutes & Treasurer’s Report
The members approved the minutes of the Jan. 16, 2007, meeting on a motion by Steve Higgins seconded by Donna McConnell.

The treasurer’s report reflecting an opening balance of $262.83, income of $155.00, expenses of $25.00 and a current balance of $392.83 was approved on a vote of those present.

Old business
Members discussed the group’s domain name, which is due for renewal in a few months, and debated whether to change the name of the organization.

Program
Program presenter Ron McConnell demonstrated the Turbo Tax income-tax preparation software from installation on a PC loaned for the program by Linda Gibson. Ron explained that Turbo Tax guides users through their tax filing either by prompting for figures to complete the line items, just as one would complete the standard hard-copy form, or by "interviewing" the user to determine tax status, income sources and taxes owed.

Turbo Tax provides tax-law updates to its subscribers, making it more current than the instructions furnished to filers in December by IRS and Pennsylvania Department of Revenue.

The program prints all necessary forms, schedules and worksheets necessary and allows users to file returns online or by mail. Turbo Tax saves the filer’s return as a data file or as an Adobe PDF file.

Ron said he has tried several different kinds of tax-filing software (including Tax Act, Tax Cut and H&R Block) but has settled on Turbo Tax and used it consistently since 1999.

New and Old business
In additional discussion and debate in search of a user-friendlier name for ICPCUG and its Web site, treasurer Bob Dalecki suggested "Indiana County Computer Club" and the nickname IC3 for all purposes.

Linda Gibson reported the Commonplace Coffee House at University Square, 1176 Grant St., has wireless Internet access for its customers and other users.

Close
The next meeting of Indiana County PC Users Group will be held 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 20, 2007. On a motion by Larry Stadtmiller, the meeting was adjourned at 8:50 p.m.
